Who We Are

About Us

El Cortao’ was founded in 2019 as a student-led platform designed to promote creative and academic writing on Latin America. The platform has since seen rapid expansion and is now managed by our dedicated Feature Editors who, alongside our Editor-in-Chief, help process the growing number of articles submitted annually by our Contributors and Ambassadors. We are committed to providing our readership with varied and quality content and we are proud to host interviews and analyses that bring forward the perspectives of leading experts on Latin America.

Happy reading!

Editor-in-Chief

Amy Hargreaves Smith

Amy is a second-year International Development BA student at King’s. She may not be Latina by blood, but she can recite just about any old reggaeton song thrown her way, which she truly hopes gives her some points on the committee. From volcano-boarding in Nicaragua, to carnival-ing in Brazil, and animal rescue centre-ing in Mexico, this gringa hopes to draw on these experiences to bring some oomph to this year’s El Cortao’.
